Sunrise Hotel
Sunrise Hotel proposal & where we are at!
The other night at the BlackMilk Vs Sailor Jerry party, I was asked at what stage we are at with Sunrise Hotel. I think it is generally assumed that it is a quick process to make a short movie. This isn’t always the case, depending on the short movie, it can take months of preparation. It really all boils down to how close to the original vision you want to make it.
With Sunrise Hotel, we are quite adamant to make it fit into the “vibe” of the original script … This has taken a bit longer due to our ongoing search for the perfect locations and we’ve also had to start a process that we’re all quite new at. The process of gaining funding.
We have realised that gaining funding for a creative project is quite a tricky thing as you have to keep true to your creative vision, while being able to offer the investor something they can benefit from. I think that we have a lot to offer when it comes to this … We are more than happy to negotiate.
Having produced 6 short art and horror films over the past two years without funding, we have a good idea of how to keep a budget down to what is necessary without skimping on quality. After all, our short films have won many awards and gained a lot of exposure during this time, in national newspapers and at various events, as well as online and abroad.
But all this said … trying to find the right sponsor isn’t that easy at all. So if anyone knows of someone who would like to get involved in this endeavour or if you are interested in this offer for sponsorship, please download a more detailed document here.
In exchange for funding we will be able to offer a variety of benefits, including, but not limited to:
1. Online video, image and text exposure.
2. Mention in the credits.
3. Possible corporate product placement.
4. Possible advertising at screening events.
5. Possible creation of an advert or promotional film in exchange for financial sponsorship
Partial sponsorship will be acceptable.
Feel free to contact us with any questions.

The Sunrise Hotel Shot List
After a 9 hour session we finally completed the Sunrise Hotel shot list on 23 January 2011.
It was a very creative exercise that was led by our Cinematographer / Editor Leon Visser. Thomas and I also planned who would be directing specific scenes and acts.
A very ambitious project, the Sunrise Hotel shot list contains many more shots and set-ups than any of our more recent films.
We will shortly meet up with our Production Designer / Art Director Este Kira so that she can start to create the needed elements required to breathe life into the Sunrise Hotel.

The new movie starts to hatch!
Last night, Ronnie, Leon and Lohan dropped by my place, so that Ronnie and
I could discuss the cinematographic aspects of our new film with Leon.
We are planning on meeting with Este soon to discuss the film’s art and production aspects.
There are still one or two scenes that need ironing out… But it’s looking extremely exciting.
We are still on track to start filming early next year!
Here’s a photograph of the three of us from last night.
A New Film Script
Ronnie Belcher and Thomas Dorman have just completed the third draught of their latest short film script.
The new project promises to be one of their most ambitious projects to date; The film will have a much bigger cast than any of their previous projects and also promises to include complex dialogue, which is an element that they have not included in other works. “We will shortly be meeting with the rest of the BlackMilk team to discuss our vision. The team that ensured the wonderful success of our previous two films will once again lend their expertise, passion, and knowledge. Thomas and I cannot make these films without them”.
The final draught should be completed by end 2010 and the team are confident to start shooting in March 2011 once all pre-production has been completed. “We are in the process of scouting for locations and we will be casting the roles within the next month.” The film will include all the usual “BlackMilk” elements, but will also push the creative boundaries of the entire team.
If anyone wants to be involved with this project, please email Ronnie: ronnie.belcher@yahoo.com
